I am a millennial. And I have seen people around me, be it my friends, family or relatives, discuss now and then about which type of marriage is better for today’s generation? Some of them say it is always better to marry a person your parents chose for you because they always know better and have more experience in the field of relationships. Others, usually the young people, say it is better to decide to spend your life with someone you choose yourself because what if you do not like someone your parents chose for you to marry?
Recently, my parents started looking for a groom for my elder sister and sorted their list of perfect grooms in a typical arranged marriage way. From matching birth charts to matching heights, everything was being done the exact way it happens in a proper arranged marriage.
So I started thinking, will all this make sure that my sister will be happy with her future life partner? Do all this give us a guarantee about the future ahead? Is getting married to a person you already know and love will ensure that you will be happy in the future than getting married to a comparatively unknown person?
Well this debate is never going to end. And after all these arguments and reasons, the conclusion I reached to is that, it all depends on the two individuals who are getting married. A happy and healthy relationship is not created automatically but is built with a lot of effort, investment, trust, respect and last but not the least, love. All these factors are equally important to build a strong relationship. The speed with which the relationship is starting to get built might get affected by external factors like love marriage or arranged marriage, but ultimately the result always depends on the two individuals’ interest in building a relationship.
If a person genuinely wants to build something great with another person, it does not matter if they knew each other for a long time or just met a few months back, everything gets sorted by the amount of genuine efforts made by both the individuals. So if you are about to get married or are newly married, do not worry about the future, just keep making genuine efforts in the present and all will be good.
